1 - Professional Driving Standard
Training begins by developing the high driving standard expected of a professional instructor. You will focus on observation, forward planning and safe decision making, building the habits required to demonstrate consistent, confident and responsible driving at all times.
2 - Instructional Skills
Training continues by developing the instructional skills needed to teach learner drivers effectively. You will learn how to structure lessons clearly, communicate instructions with confidence and guide pupils through the learning process in a calm and supportive way.
3 - Teaching & Coaching Techniques
Training then introduces the coaching techniques used by modern driving instructors. You will learn how to encourage reflection, ask effective questions and support pupils in recognising risks, making decisions and improving their driving skills independently.
4 - Reflective Learning & Progress
Training concludes by strengthening your ability to review lessons and reflect on your progress as an instructor. This helps you identify areas for improvement, build confidence in your teaching approach and continue developing your skills over time.
Comprehensive Training and Support
Instructor development takes place both in the car and beyond it. The programme includes a minimum of 40 hours of practical in-car training, delivered on a one-to-one basis, with one trainee working directly alongside an experienced instructor trainer. This approach allows each session to focus entirely on your development, giving you the time and space to practise teaching techniques and build confidence without having to share training time with other trainees.
Supporting Your Instructor Development
Alongside the practical training, you will receive additional one-to-one coaching and guided support to help you prepare for each stage of the qualification process. This includes structured learning resources, training videos and recommended reading designed to strengthen your understanding of instructional techniques and the ADI tests.
